While Parish Pastoral Councils are relatively new organizations in
today's Church, they have their roots in the early Church, where it
was common for groups to share their leadership & their resources
with the whole community. We read a description of this
leadership in the early Church: (from Acts 4: 32-35)-
"The
community of believers were of one heart & one mind. None of
them ever claimed anything as his or her own: rather
everything was held in common. Nor was there anyone needy
among them, for all who owned property or houses sold them & donated
the proceeds. They used to lay them at the feet of the
apostles to be distributed to everyone according to need."
At the heart of the parish is the formation of community which
goes back to the roots of who we are and who we are called to be-
people who share their gifts, talents & resources in order to build
the Reign of God and people who lead by serving the community.
