Some Notes from the Catholic Light –April 26, 2012 Edition

***Praying for a Bountiful Harvest – The Diocese of Scranton conducted its observance of the World Day of Prayer for Vocations on Sunday, April 22nd at the 12:15 Mass in St. Peter’s Cathedral. The Most Rev. Joseph C. Bambera, Bishop of Scranton presided at the Liturgy, which encouraged the faithful to pray for vocations to the priesthood, diaconate and consecrated life. Every day needs to be a day of prayer for vocations.

***Three Priests of the Diocese Laid to Rest – Monsignor Francis J. Callahan, April 10’2012; Father Hugh H. McGroarty, April 16, 2012; Father John A. Walsh, April 19,2012. The Obituary column celebrating the life and work of each cleric was given as well as a moving Eulogy on each. Their mission was service and their legacy was love.

***The Road to Resurrection – The priests of the Diocese concelebrated the Chrism Mass with Bishop Bambera at the Cathedral. After the Mass, the priests received the holy Chrism, Oil of the Sick and the Oil of the Catechumens. The Deacons assisted in the blessing of the holy oils.

To the left of the Tabernacle in the Sanctuary of St. Monica’s you can see the three oils in a special lighted case. Look for them.

***The Catholic Difference – Cardinal Timothy Dolan and the New Evangelization…a must read item. The Church is a mission and each of us who names Jesus as Lord and Savior should measure ourselves by our mission-effectiveness.

Evangelization: A Roman Catholic App

As desirable as face-to-face evangelization is, this app makes personal interaction optional. Even the most timid Catholic can evangelize with it, or just use it to explain why he or she is Catholic. It's ideally suited for CCD, RCIA, high school, home school, college / university, campus ministry and other Catholic settings, personal or online.

To Activate the app:

1. Go to http://7step.catholic.org

(Bookmark for frequent use).

2. Select and print the free 7-step wallet outline – with its biblical and other footnotes – in any of 12 languages; the primary languages of one-half of the world’s 6.9 billion population.

3. Select and play the 20-minute MP3 file (English) of the author's daughter role-playing a college student challenging her father on all steps but the last – after which she really knows WHY she is Catholic.

Just about everyone in your e-mail list, Facebook group or other list of contacts has loved ones and friends who have left the Catholic Church or never heard a compelling invitation to become Catholic. On January 25, 2011 Pope Benedict XVI called us to evangelize the world.  What better way to jump-start that process than to send this app to all your e-mail, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace, etc., contacts and encourage them to pass it on? With your help, this app may well go "viral" on the Internet.
